I’ve been working in tech for the past five years, first as a Head of Copy, and now as a creative director. I’ve built out an award-winning in-house studio of copywriters, designers and animators, while scaling creative strategy against the explosive growth of one of the UK’s biggest tech unicorns. That’s right: explosive.
Starling Bank
Head of Creative (2020-Present)> Head of Copy (2018-2020)> Senior Copywriter (2017-2018)
Banking was rubbish six years ago. The 400 before that weren’t too hot either.
Starling set out to change that. As the UK’s first 100% digital bank on a mission to (wait for it) disrupt the industry, it offered a more human, honest and tech-forward alternative to the slow, ethically dubious banks of the past. In its early days as a fledgling startup, I joined as its first proper copywriter, tasked with defining who we were and what we sounded like, and building out a writing discipline.
Five years later, Starling is valued at over £2.7 billion with millions of customers and a team in the 2000s. From Senior Copywriter to Head of Copy, and now as Head of Creative, I’ve built out a full-service creative studio that serves every corner of the business.
What that looks like: mentoring and leading creatives. Telling commercially strategic stories. Running 360° campaigns. Creative strategy.
